MOROCCO:  The Atlas Mountains, Marrakesh, Ouarzazate, the Sahara Desert, Fes, Casablanca

Yoga Adventure Itinerary*
 

November 5 - 15, 2026


 

Day 1 – Thursday, November 5: Marrakech

We will rendezvous at Marrakesh Menara Airport for a group transport to our lovely and authentically Moroccan guest house on the outskirts of Marrakech.    You'll settle into your room, explore the grounds, and meet for an orientation with our tour guide, Fouad.  We’ll head back into Marrakech for an Opening Dinner at a traditional Moroccan restaurant to celebrate the start of our retreat, followed by a walk in the world-famous square, Jemma al Fna. Located in the heart of Marrakech, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a feast for the senses.  With snake charmers, musicians, street performers, and exotic food stalls, it’s the perfect introduction to the spirit Morocco.
 

Day 2 – Friday, November 6: Marrakech

Start your first full day in on retreat with morning yoga, followed by breakfast.   Today, we’ll head back into Marrakech, for an all-day exploration of the city.  One of the four Imperial Cities of Morocco, Marrakech is a bustling and historic town, with much to see. We’ll visit Koutoubia Mosque, the Secret Garden, and Medersa Ben Youssef, all breathtaking examples of classic Moroccan architecture.  After a light lunch, we’ll explore the medina and its world-famous souks. before returning to our hotel for a gentle evening practice and dinner.
 

Day 3 – Saturday, November 7: Atlas Mountains

We’ll have a morning yoga practice, followed by breakfast.    Today, we’ll drive to the Ourika Valley in the Atlas Mountains to visit a traditional Berber house, learn more about the their culture and participate in a cooking class.  We’ll come together for a gentle evening practice and dinner back at our hotel outside Marrakech.
 

Day 4 – Sunday, November 8:  Marrakech / Ouarzazate
After an early morning practice, we’ll start our drive to our next location, the town of Ouarzazate, the gateway to the Sahara.  On our way, we’ll stop to visit a Women’s Argan Oil Cooperative to learn about the Argan Tree, the process of making the treasured argan oil, and hear from some of the women who work there.  After lunch on the road, we’ll continue our drive, stopping at an embroidery cooperative to see the work of these amazing craftspeople.  We’ll arrive at our accommodations late afternoon, with time to explore the property and settle in for a gentle practice and group dinner.
 

Day 5 – Monday, November 9: Ouarzazate

We’ll have a morning yoga practice, followed by breakfast.    After breakfast, we’ll walk through the lush gardens of our hotel on our way to Ait Benhaddou Kasbah.  Ouarzazate is known for its dramatic and star-studded history in the film industry, and Ait Benhaddou is one of the most filmed sites.  This earthen clay kasbah has appeared as the backdrop of such blockbusters as Gladiator, Game of Thrones, Lawrence of Arabia, and The Mummy.  After a group lunch, we’ll also visit Atlas Film Studios, one of the largest film studios in the world, with sets from Kingdom of Heaven, Game of Thrones, and Asterix and Cleopatra to visit.  We’ll also visit at Taourirt Kasbah, before heading back to the hotel for a gentle evening practice and dinner.

 

Day 6 – Tuesday, November 10:  Ouarzazate / Merzouga

We’ll have a morning yoga practice, followed by breakfast.    Our drive deeper into to the Sahara Desert is truly magical. We’ll stop for lunch and visit the Toudgha Gorges before arriving at our riad in the desert.   A sunset camel ride or ATV ride will awaken your senses to the beauty of the desert at night before dinner.

No evening practice today.
 

Day 7 – Wednesday, November 11:  Merzouga/The Sahara

After a morning yoga practice and breakfast, we’ll head out to explore the mysteries of the desert.  The Merzouga region of the Moroccan Sahara is a premier destination for discovering ancient fossils and we’ll visit a local site and shops, before heading to Khamlia Village, a traditional West African village famous for its slave music.  After a lunch of traditional Saharan pizza, we’ll visit a local Berber group and experience a traditional tea ceremony at an oasis.   A sunset camel ride or ATV ride will awaken your senses to the beauty of the desert. Tonight, we’ll be staying in the nearby desert camp, with dinner under the stars. No evening practice today.

 

Day 8 – Thursday, November 12: Merzouga / Fes

No morning yoga today!  We will have an early departure after breakfast as we continue our adventure, on to Fes.  Founded in 789 AD, Fes is considered the oldest imperial city and serves as the country's spiritual and cultural capital, renowned for its massive, UNESCO-listed, car-free medina, Fes el-Bali.  On our way, we stop for lunch and visit the largest oasis in the world (with one million palm trees,) as well as Ifrane National Park, home to about 25% of the Barbary Ape population in Morocco.  We’ll arrive late evening in Fes, settling into our hotel before a group dinner.  Evening practice if time permits.
 

Day 9 – Friday, November 13: Fes

We’ll have a morning yoga practice, followed by breakfast, before we set off to explore Fes.  We’ll visit local ceramic artisans, explore the enormous medina and learn about its ancient history.  After a group lunch, we’ll continue our walking tour of Fes.  A gentle evening practice back at the hotel will be followed by dinner.

 

Day 10 – Saturday, November 14: Fes / Casablanca

No morning yoga today!  We will have an early departure after breakfast as we head to our destination, Casablanca.  On our way we’ll visit the ancient ruins of Volubulis, before stopping for lunch in the beautiful imperial city of Meknes.  After lunch, we’ll continue our way to Casablanca and check into our final accommodation.  A gentle evening practice will be followed by a farewell dinner as we mark the end of our time together.
 

Day 11 – Sunday, November 15:  Casablanca

There will be no practice this morning; after breakfast we’ll make one last stop together at the breathtaking Hassan II Mosque, situated beautifully on the Atlantic Coast.  One of the only mosques open to non-Muslims, the mosque is breathtaking landmark of Moroccan architectures.  We’ll transport from there to the airport for afternoon transfers out of Casablanca; for those that plan to fly out the following morning, we’ll reserve rooms at the hotel.
